Join us for a firsthand look at our local history. Take a walking tour that explores the life and the contributions of C.V. Chandler. The tour departs from the museum and includes stops at Chandler Opera House and Chandler Park.

Macomb's Historic Courthouse Square
Do you like history? Would you like hear the stories about the buildings around Macomb’s Courthouse Square? The popular guided tour of the Macomb Courthouse Square returns on Heritage Days weekend and continues throughout the summer.
Trained, knowledgeable volunteers from the Western Illinois Museum lead the fun, informative and entertaining tours. Lasting about an hour, the tour provides an overview of the historical landmarks of downtown Macomb.
With many of the buildings dating back to the 19th century, the tour is a stroll back in time to a past when the brick-lined streets of the Square echoed with the clip-clop of horse-drawn wagons and the air was filled with the bustling hubbub of merchants and people going about their business.
This tour is a great way to become acquainted or re-acquainted with the unique character of the Courthouse Square. The history of Macomb goes back to the founding of the city in 1831 and its architecture tells the story of its growth from early pioneer days to the present. Take a tour and explore the history and heart of our city!

Tours leave from the Western Illinois Museum and are free and open to the public. Donations are always appreciated.
