Down on the Farm

August 9 - November, 2005

The exhibit features artifacts from the museum's permanent collection, as well as items donated by community members.

Down on the Farm
includes examples of the museum’s extensive barbed wire collection, with a section of the earliest wire patented in 1868. The exhibit also highlights a circa 1860 Brown corn planter made in Galesburg, a sickle bar from an 1831 model McCormick reaper, and many other antique farm tools. A country kitchen is displayed, and children will enjoy "The Old Farm Attic," an interactive area that has coloring activities, old school desks, dress up farm clothes and a life sized picture of Grant Wood’s American Gothic. "We are hoping the exhibit will appeal to a wide variety of people, young and old," explained curator Jennifer Edwards-Ring.
